Manufacturing Opportunity for a Container Spreader
The work required - BCS invites tenders from experienced qualified heavy steel engineering fabricators to manufacture and assemble two prototype telescopic spreaders 12mx5mx600mm telescoping out to 6.6m wide lifting 8 teu of containers in VTL. The tare weight will include 6 tonnes of weldments. The spreader will comprise three main-assemblies which can be bolted together for shipping inside a standard 40ft container. The manufacturer is to follow the requirements laid down by BCS and comply with applicable crane and handling directives, employing coded welders and professional procedures. The manufacturer is to be familiar with OSHA, ICHCA, SOLAS, LOLER, Machinery Directives and other applicable regulations. The manufacturer is expected to contribute to the development of the design and value engineering at all stages. The spreader being required have high impact resistance, low tare weight, be suitable for manufacture in UK with low volume production and yet be commercially competitive worldwide. The manufacturer will purchase and fit the electro-hydraulics, electronic controls and remote wireless communication for the crane driver, special twistlock forgings and machined housings. The cost of all jigs, fixtures and tools will be included in the tender, devise test rigs, attend, liaise testing and certification of the product by certifying authority.
The steel work for the first of the two spreaders will be assembled unpainted, strain gauged and structurally tested and certified. It will then be disassembled and the steel work blasted, primed and painted to BCS zinc/epoxy marine paint requirements. It will then be reassembled complete with all hydraulics and electronics and proof tested. Finally it will be disassembled into three sub-assemblies and containerised ready for delivery to a UK destination and there assemble, install, commission and train the port employees. The second prototype spreader will be fully manufactured, proof tested and broken down and containerised and delivered to a European destination and there assembled, installed, commissioned and port employees trained.
Timings - The work is to commence immediately and the first prototype be completed by 15 May 2018 ready for delivery.
Price -A fixed price quotation and completion date of the design is required. All and any shortcomings or unknowns to complete the tender are to be identified.

Payment terms – Monthly invoice, settlement 30 days from approval.
